There are many great reasons and many great choices:
The first universities that pop into your head will be Oxford and Cambridge, always at the top of any international ranking you can find. Oxford dates back to 1096 and Cambridge 1209. You may have seen the boat races each year between their two rowing teams, as fiercely contested as any Rose Bowl game.
Beyond immersing themselves in the history around them, our students most often choose the UK or Ireland because of being able to specialise in such areas as medicine, pharmacy or law right out of high school. They know what they want, and they want to get started.
Note that Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland join England as part of the UK, so you have many interesting cultural options to choose from as well as excellent rail (and ferry) service throughout the country. Distances are much shorter than North America. Cities such as London, Glasgow and Dublin offer direct international flights, and the Chunnel rail under the English Channel takes you swiftly to Paris for further adventures in Europe.
There aren’t many bargains, however, and as all but a few are public, scholarship aid for international students does not proliferate. However, some programs offer four-year master’s degrees, while others a bachelor’s degree.
